In this time of company mergers and product consolidation, it's common to want to merge several sites into a single site. Even where there isn't a pressing corporate need to merge the content of several sites, consolidating sites that have sprawled can increase use, improve navigation and make for much easier extension in the future. Adaptive Path specializes in site unification.
Our approach brings together goals of your users, your company's mission and the business goals of your Web sites into a single design solution.
During a typical site unification process we will:
- Collect and organize product requirements. We focus on more than the list of desired functions, investigating the stated and implicit factors that the whole company considers to be important in the new unified site's success.
- Conduct a content inventory to understand the breadth of the content that's available across all of your sites.
- Examine the available content in light of your customer and company needs in order to see where there is redundant content and which additional content needs to be created.
- Create a new information architecture by coupling the content inventory analysis with our understanding of users' mental models and the product's business goals. This architecture will define the overarching user experience of the site and will be documented in a diagram specifying every step of the user experience within the section under review.
- Provide detailed navigation specifications indicating the navigation elements required for every page, in order to guide the implementation of the new architecture
- If needed, these specifications will be supplemented by wireframe schematics indicating the placement of all navigation elements. We can also provide a style guide that will outline naming conventions for key content areas, URL conventions, and conventions for sitewide wayfinding cues.
- Throughout, we bring in actual end users for lightweight usability testing to sanity-check our designs.
- Finally, we will work with your in-house team or bring in our own visual design partners to integrate the new architecture and interaction scheme with your brand.
