Interaction design (also called "user interface design") is the design of how your product behaves in response to human action. It's defining what happens when a user pushes a button or clicks a mouse. Our team has done interaction design for mobile devices, interactive television, search engines, games, and applications starting as far back as CD-ROM and Bulletin Board Systems.
We strive to create elegant ways for your users to navigate through the information and functions your product provides. Our designs have the right controls available when people need them and the right data when it's appropriate. We aim to meet the users' expectations and the business needs of the product.
Rather than approaching interaction design from a purely functional standpoint, as in traditional UI design, we take into account the abilities, needs, expectations, and desires of users and couple those with the goals, brand identity and technical constraints of the product. With this group of constraints in mind, we develop a set of consistent, rigorous models of information flow and a set of interaction designs that allow people to use and understand all of your product's key features.
During a typical interaction design process we will:
- Collect and organize product requirements. We focus on more than the list of desired functions, investigating the stated and implicit factors that the company considers to be most important in the product's success.
- Create thorough user profiles of key user audiences. This profile defines the ideal users in terms of their demographic makeup, technological familiarity, general subject interest, and understanding.
- Collect and organize user needs and expectations. Either using existing research or performing a task analysis, we identify what the products' users want from your product and how they expect to use it.
- Using all of this information, we create a set of interaction flow diagrams describing user flow through the product, wireframe schematics indicating the placement of all interaction elements, and detailed functional specifications that describe each element and its relationship to other elements.
- Throughout, we bring in actual end users for lightweight usability testing to sanity-check our designs.
