Employee-centered Intranet Information Architecture
Section from Employee Mental Model
Section from Manager Mental Model
Business Need: The HR department had dual web sites: one for interacting with an employee's account, and another for retrieving information. They needed to pull the two together under a more effective architecture, but they were lacking a good methodology to follow. They also wanted to explore migrating to a CMS as a part of the new launch.
Process and Solution: Over the course of five months, Adaptive Path lead the Agilent HR intranet team through the task analysis and architecture derivation process. After determining an audience segmentation together, Adaptive Path conducted user interviews and drafted the users' mental models. Together with the Agilent team, we analyzed the model, content, and business needs to derive an architecture and navigation that fit all three. Adaptive Path drew up schematics, which the Agilent HR team polished, tested, and launched.
Benefits: By working with Adaptive Path, Agilent was able to follow a proven methodology that ensured an extensible solution that met all needs. The HR team went on to practice the methodology on follow-up projects, validating Adaptive Path's approach mentorship.
