AP wants to Buy You, Lou, and Steve a Beer
With our good friends Lou Rosenfeld and Steve Krug in town, AP thought we’d buy a couple of rounds at a local pub. Come have a beer with us, talk shop, and get to know Lou, Steve, and their seminar attendees. “Final Final” is just a few blocks from the seminar location, The Palace of Fine Arts. If you have any questions, please drop a note to info@adaptivepath.com.
October 20, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. The bar is “FINAL FINAL,” 2990 Baker Street (at Lombard Street).
Also, Lou and Steve are offering a seminar discount to folks who get the AP Newsletter:
On October 20, Lou Rosenfeld’s workshop “Enterprise Information Architecture” will tackle the challenge of getting a large, politically charged organization produce a unified, user-centered Web site. Then on October 21, it’s “Don’t Make Me Think: The Workshop,” with Steve Krug expanding on the topics in his bestselling Web usability book.
The early registration discount ends September 22. When registering, note that you’re a “Friend of Adaptive Path” and you’ll get an additional $50 discount per seminar.
“The Business Value of Web Standards” by Jeffrey Veen
I’ve been involved in the Web standards community almost as long as I’ve been working on the Web, and I’ve long felt that designing to W3C recommendations is the Right Thing To Do. When it came time to redesign the Adaptive Path site, my partners agreed that we should approach the project from a standards perspective. But before we started, we discussed whether the effort — and it was a lot of effort — was really worth it.

Adaptive Path Selected to Merge PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards Sites
We’re very excited to announce that PeopleSoft has chosen us to manage the merging of its public Web site with that of J.D. Edwards & Co.
Our Press Release:
San Francisco, CA, September 12, 2003 - PeopleSoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: PSFT) announced today that it has selected Adaptive Path, the world’s leading user experience firm, to develop and manage the merging of its public Web site with that of J.D. Edwards & Co. (Nasdaq: JDEC). PeopleSoft purchased the Denver software maker last month for $1.8 billion in cash and stock.
“Given the circumstances of this merger, the business community will be looking closely at PeopleSoft.com to monitor how quickly the merger is progressing,” says Peter Merholz, founding partner of Adaptive Path and project lead. “We have two formidable companies that want to join forces, and supporting that effort is a huge, exciting challenge.”
In 2001, Adaptive Path worked with PeopleSoft to unify several of the company’s existing sites, developing a cohesive user experience throughout. Adaptive Path then provided content strategy and information architecture for integration of eighteen additional PeopleSoft Web sites around the world.
Adaptive Path will immediately begin to integrate JDEdwards.com into the PeopleSoft.com site structure. Working with teams from both companies, Adaptive Path will formulate a set of shared objectives for a unified site strategy. That strategy, combined with Adaptive Path’s research and expertise on enterprise software customers, will guide the creation of an integrated site structure to support the business goals of the newly merged companies.
“PeopleSoft is pleased to again choose Adaptive Path to assist us with key project components like critical stakeholder interviews. They provide an unbiased viewpoint that always keeps the site visitor’s needs paramount,” says Suzanne Van Cleve, director of PeopleSoft.com. “Using Adaptive Path enables us to achieve our objectives faster and brings a wealth of best practices gleaned from their impressive client base.”
