A Capital Idea: User Experience Week in DC, August 13-16

Julia Child’s salad spinner, Evel Knievel’s Harley-Davidson XR-750, George Washington’s farewell address candleholder…they’re all in Washington, DC. And now, for four special days this summer, our nation’s capital is also the home of UX Week, the must-attend conference of the year. This August, join other top user experience practitioners as they descend on DC to sip drinks, scrutinize nametags, and absorb all the user-experience trends, tools and know-how that their big bright brains can carry.

The amazing Deborah Adler has already been lined up for keynote duty (more on that exciting development below), and the speaker list is getting longer and deeper by the day, so keep checking back for more details.

BONUS(es)! Register before May 11, and you’ll receive a nice, fat discount to the tune of $500. But that’s not all! UX Week slices, it dices, and now it’s also 15% easier on the wallet for all you smart newsletter subscribers! Enter promo code “FOAP” for that 15% subscriber discount.

Speaking of Which: Deborah Adler Confirmed to Keynote UX Week in DC!

Adaptive Path is pleased to announce designer Deborah Adler as one of the keynote speakers at the upcoming UX Week in DC. As the designer of Target’s revolutionary ClearRX prescription bottle system, Deborah has a unique story to tell: how design can have a positive effect on a large, multi-channel business; how it’s possible to radically re-think the design of something that everyone considered solved (the prescription bottle); and, best of all, how one designer’s passion, curiosity and sensitivity to the user experience can make a real impact on the lives of millions of people.

Check out Brandon Schauer’s thoughtful and in-depth blog post: The Target pill bottle isn’t a bottle, it’s a system.

Ryan Freitas Brings Back a Slice of London’s Future of Web Design Conference

Last month, our very own Ryan Freitas was invited to speak at the Future of Web Design conference in London. His talk, User-Centered Design Principles for Evolving Products, managed the impressive feat of drawing parallels between evolutionary biology and tactics and trends from the user-centered design world.

Blue that you missed it? Mope not, the experience is now virtually duplicate-able: Simply download the slides, tune into the podcast, and enjoy. Almost as good as being there, wot-wot?

Early-bird Special for UX Intensive in Amsterdam, June 18-21

If you’re feeling the sting of missing Chicago’s UX Intensive, and/or you find yourself in the mood to go Dutch this summer, UXI Amsterdam still has a few slots left. The conference promises the same in-depth learning experience that the Adaptive Path staff served up in the Windy City, with a lineup of one-day courses — Design Strategy, Design Research, Interaction Design and Information Architecture — that can be taken in any combination: all, some or just one.

And here’s a nice double-savings opportunity: Register before May 31 and get the juicy early-bird rate, and then get another 15% off as a reward for subscribing to the newsletter! Enter the promotion code “FOAP”.
