Ten Tips for Managing a Creative Environment
by Sarah B. Nelson & Bryan Mason
This one and a quarter hour online seminar provides management professionals with approaches for developing and maintaining a healthy, creative environment within your organization and specific tools to help support the entire creative team.
Who is this workshop for?
We work in an industry without a great deal of directly applicable traditions for managing the creative process. When compared to other creative fields -- music, theater, dance, and even fine dining -- there is very little precedent for time-honored practices around managing the creative process. We can learn a lot from the professionals that manage other creative industries. Stage managers wrangle directors, designers, and actors every day, under strict union guidelines. Editors cajole writers into producing content -- on time -- each week. Conductors balance the needs of dozens of musicians while staying true to the needs of the music. These disciplines can teach us how to build and support creative environments that are conducive to producing exceptional work that is also on time and budget.
What will you learn?
- Approaches for managing a creative staff
- Tools for prioritizing creative projects
- Techniques for making creative decisions and communicating them to the team
- Dealing with team members that stifle the creative environment
- Tools for getting your staff to work towards the same creative goal
