Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for intermediate to experienced designers who want to deepen their knowledge of interaction design beyond wireframes and personas. Dan guides participants to a better understanding of the design process with sources of inspiration, creating design principles, and how to fix a broken product.
What will be covered?
This workshop covers:
- Developing a framework to turn research findings into interaction design concepts: Learn how to take the raw data from research and craft design principles that you can turn into a prototype. Case Study: Adaptive Path's Charmr project
- Make better design decisions: When we come to a decision point in a project, how do we go about making the best possible one? How do we make decisions at all? This dip into cognitive theory is essential background information for all designers
- Fix broken products: We don't always get to design products from scratch — in fact we seldom do. How do we evaluate an existing product and go about fixing it? Case Study: Microsoft's Office 2007
- Communicate your design throughout the organization: Designing is only half the battle: Getting your design vision communicated and acted upon is just as important — if not more so — than the design itself. We'll discuss tips and tricks for crafting and spreading your message
- New sources of inspiration: Too often interaction designers simply look at other digital products for inspiration, but it's a big world out there. We should be looking towards other design products — films, architecture, and mechanical objects — for inspiration
