Adaptive Path in 2010: A Look Forward
by peterme2009 felt like a bit of a pause. Though we did great work, the state of the economy affected our ability to evolve. 2010 should prove not only to be the year we make contact (oh dear, will that joke ever get old this year? has it already?) , but also the one where we get back on track.
New Faces
It’s been a while since we’ve been able to welcome new folks to Adaptive Path, and now we’re doing it in bunches! Actually, our first new face, Ix, joined our Austin team last November, after contracting with us for nearly a year. Ix brings with him extensive experience across a range of digital design challenges (web, software, mobile, device, ecosystem), with experience at Quark and Microsoft.
On January 4th, two more people joined the team. We’ve known Leslie Chicoine since she first moved to the Bay Area and worked with our pals at Ruby Red Labs, and then Get Satisfaction. She got her BFA in Interaction Design and Game Development, and enjoys messing around with technologies like Arduino, Siftables, and whatever else she can get her hands on.
Last year, we contracted with visual designer Trina Hancock, and now she’s with us full-time. Trina has a remarkable portfolio of branding, identity, and collateral work, and her first task at Adaptive Path will be to give our public events an unparalleled look and feel.
Next week, we’ll be joined by Kim Cullen, a visual designer with a delightfully varied portfolio. She’s done everything from identity design, collateral, museum exhibit design, packaging, books, and posters. Most recently, she was the Art Director for justin.tv, where she realized a newfound passion for all things user experience. She studied semiotics at Brown University, so don’t be surprised if she starts rambling about Baudrillard or Saussure.
Global Presence
In my last post, I mentioned our work in Europe. We expect that to expand further, and we’ve enlisted long-time friend of Adaptive Path Peter Boersma as a collaborator in those efforts. We have a number of irons in the fire with European clients.
Additionally, our Austin office might be little in size (three people full-time), but it’s big in spirit, leading two of our company’s biggest projects. We’re looking forward to seeing it grow!

Events
MX 2010 takes place March 7-8, and its program is mostly set, with great speakers such as Jared Spool. Margaret Gould Stewart (from YouTube), and Neff Hudson (from USAA). We have a strict space limitation on attendees this year, so register early to make sure you get in.
UX Week 2010, taking place August 24-27, is still in its early planning stages, but we’ve already gotten commitments from awesome speakers such as Kristina Halvorson, Dave Gray, Jeffrey Veen, and Nicole Lazzaro. I can tell you that two topics will examine deeply this year are social media and game mechanics for UX design.
And our traveling UX Intensive four-day workshop will be in Amsterdam from April 26-29, San Francisco June 27-30, and an-as-yet-to-be-determined east coast city in the fall.
