Is an end to the tyranny in sight?
by Rachel HinmanA month ago I wrote an essay on the need for mobile carriers to reinvent themselves - that their strategy of bullying customers into relationships through contracts lays the groundwork for nothing but a contentious relationship.
If today’s ruling by a Superior Court judge in California making early contract termination illegal is any indication of the future, an end to the age of carrier tyranny here in the United States may be coming to an end.
Let the golden age of mobile in the U.S. begin…

Actually, making contract termination <b>fees</b> illegal.
The spirit of this rule can be subverted easily: the phone value will be charged as part of the contract, monthly, and if the customer wants to terminate the contract, need to pay for the phone in full first. That’s the way they do it down here.
