How to Choose a Font
by DanOne of my unanswered questions from grad school was the title of this post: How do you choose a typeface for your project? Sure, I learned from Kristin Hughes how to obey the rules and from Karen Moyer what’s normal. Kristen and Dan Boyarksi (who studied under legendary Swiss typographer Armin Hoffman) made me explore expressive typography. I even learned a bit about Illegibility.
Karen recommended finding about 10 fonts that you use all the time and understand well. I have, uh, four: Garamond, Univers, Whitney, and Verdana. But I’m always looking for others that are suitable. But how to choose them?
Not surprisingly, Michael Bierut has an answer.

About this issue I always recommend Jan Tschichold’s work, one of the best on how to apply typefaces. (Tschichold at wikipedia).
