Leopard’s Spaces
by DanI once saw a nifty demonstration of spatial memory given by cognitive psych professor Rich Carlson. He had one of my classmates pull out a handful of change from her pocket, then he asked her to total the coins up. She immediately began, without prompting, to sort the coins into piles, moving each to a different location on the table in front of her so she could better see the coins and, more importantly, understand them.
I’ve also seen, while doing user research for my master’s thesis project, Mac users who had completely different desktops for different tasks — one for work, one for mail, etc. — that they shifted between by “logging in” as different users.
I guess Apple also noticed both the things, because now we have Spaces in Leopard. Nifty.
