UX Week Focuses Attention on the Most Important Audience: The User
One-of-a-Kind Event Offers Exclusive Insight into User Experience Design

"User experience" is a term en vogue. Previously relegated to the vernacular of designers and technology managers, user experience has entered into mainstream business speak—and Adaptive Path is championing its emergence. The company's flagship event, User Experience Week (UX Week), hosted in Washington, D.C. August 14-17, is designed to give due credence to the user and user experience design. Now in its fifth year, UX Week boasts an indispensable curriculum and offers superior learning and networking opportunities-trademark facets of this one-of-a-kind event.

For too long, the idea behind the product-whether it was a webpage or handheld device-was more important than how well the finished product actually functioned. Adaptive Path is leading the way to user-focused design by placing emphasis on how design affects the user. For those who adhere to the tenets of user-centered design, Adaptive Path assures dividends. This is UX Week defined.

"UX Week is the cornerstone conference for those seeking to address key issues in digital product design," said Janice Fraser, CEO of Adaptive Path. "The conference curriculum and networking events are designed with one audience in mind: individuals responsible for the user's satisfaction with a product."

The overarching topic of this year's conference is "user experience design." Presenters will demonstrate the connection between design and business strategy as well as innovation in digital products. Specific session topics include: product innovation and strategy, business value of design, user experience design case studies, interaction design practices and methods, documentation and deliverables, user research, next generation web applications, mobile design, design for community, and other critical topic areas.

This year's impressive list of speakers include presenters from Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft, Carnegie Mellon, User Interface Engineering, and Adaptive Path. Keynote presenters include Stephen Johnson, writer, professor, social critic, and technologist; Michael Bierut, principal at Pentagram Designs and co-founder of Design Observer; and Jeffrey Veen, one of the founders of Adaptive Path and Design Manager at Google.

The UX Week audience consists of product managers, interaction designers, information architects, user experience professionals, content managers, and others interested in promoting the user experience at all levels and throughout all types of organizations.

"Theory and practical skill development are combined into a collaborative, educational, and entertaining conference this year," noted Fraser. "Experts and lay people alike-from a wide variety of organizations and disciplines-can take away some valuable lessons and skills from the scheduled presentations; and it's a great place to network."
