Laura Kirkwood-Datta

The Team

Laura Kirkwood-Datta is General Manager of Adaptive Path. Laura runs the consulting line of business at Adaptive Path and operations of our San Francisco studio. As the company's unflappable first mate, she ensures project teams are working harmoniously and that our clients are happy. Laura wholeheartedly believes in the tenets of user experience and uses them to help create an interesting, creative, and energizing environment for our staff and the people who work with us. She is a strong advocate for our partners and makes it a priority to understand the challenges they face. She also has a black belt in facilitating difficult conversations.

Laura believes that in business, as in life, we should relate to each other as human beings, share what we know with the world, and treat one another with R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Professional Background

Laura joined Adaptive Path in 2002 as the company's first client relations manager and has been responsible for not only bringing exciting work our teams can sink their creative teeth into, but for hand-picking project teams that are best suited to each client’s specific needs. Some of those clients include, CNN, Twitter, Nokia, Flickr, UCSF, Ameriprise, HGTV, and Cathay Pacific. In 2005 she was named Vice President of Professional Services and began managing the consulting line of business. In 2010, Laura became General Manger.

Prior to joining Adaptive Path, Laura worked with sales and events teams for a variety of CMP Media publications, including New Architect Magazine, Wall Street and Technology, and Technology and Learning. Laura spent several years in the financial services industry as a client relations manager, operations associate and trade assistant.

Laura has an intellectual crush on all of her colleagues. Her love of science fiction gives her the geek cred she needs to have conversations with her colleagues over beer. When not working, Laura enjoys exploring hiking trails in the Bay Area with her family. Despite her father being in the Michigan Soccer Hall of Fame, Laura did not really start playing soccer until recently, but she's making up for lost time by playing in the Golden Gate Women's Soccer League.

She probably swears too much in the workplace. But she's working on it.

Where do great ideas come from?

At Adaptive Path, our ideas are driven by the work we do. We do consulting for user interface and user experience design, and offer conferences, training and education for UX designers.

From field ethnography, UI wireframes and task flows, to visual design and implementation, we do it and we teach it.
